PhD Students
Recep is working on tools and algorithms for bioinformatics to analyze microbiological data. He created a web application and a database for real time tracking/analyzing the ecology of Qxy. Also, he is working on picota which is an extendible pipeline for de-novo Identification of composite transposons from assembly graphs..
MS Students
Tuna’s research area is targeted/nontargeted pollutant analysis, fate of micropollutants, and microbial biotransformations. She is currently studying the biodegradation pathway of an emerging contaminant, Hexa(methoxymethyl)melamine (HMMM), identification of its metabolites and its biosorptive removal.
Zeynep is working on conjugation potentials of disinfectant degrading genes between different strains of bacteria. Her aim is to determine the mechanism and to reveal HGT mechanisms of these genetic elements.
Alumni
Mehdi analyzed micropullutants in Ergene river and their biotransformation potentials. Currently, he works as Quality Engineer at Sweden.
Emine revealed the enzyme responsible for conversion of Benzalkonium Chlorides to Benzydimethl Amine. After PhD, she worked as PostDoc at Johns Hopkins University and currently at Boğaziçi University.
Koray made an up-flow packed bed reactor to remove benzalkonium chlorides from wastewater by using BIOMIG1. Currently, he is PhD candidate in Boğaziçi University works as Research Assistant.
Gökçin research was about understanding resistant bacteria and their protective capabilities for susceptible ones. Currently, she is PhD candidate in Boğaziçi University and works as Research Assistant.
Özge identified the factors affecting biotransformation of Benzalkonium Chlorides.
